Writers on Wednesday: Atty Eve
This week for Writers on Wednesday we're talking to the very awesome Atty Eve, author of the controversial new novel, My Beautiful Suicide ...
Tell us a bit about yourself …
I was born and raised in Colorado
Springs, Colorado, I had a religious mother and a short-tempered, alcoholic
father. My escape was reading and music.
As a teen I was an 80's new waver
with black shaved hair, a pale face and bright red lipstick. I was very
self-destructive and always got into trouble. Needing a change I followed my
father's footsteps and joined the Air Force.
During my four year enlistment I
was stationed at Nellis AFB in Las Vegas, Nevada where I met my wonderful
husband. We both got out of the military and moved to Southern Indiana, on the
outskirts of Louisville, Kentucky. I have two teenage boys whom I try to
embarrass but have yet to succeed; they have great senses of humor.
Tell us about your most recently
published, or about to be published, book?
It’s called My
Beautiful Suicide, and here’s a blurb about it:
Cosette has a rough life, but it isn’t until she accidentally kills someone that Cosette makes the decision to end it. Unwilling to hurt friends and family, Cosette feels the best method of suicide is to become a victim. But when she goes out and gets attacked; instincts take over and she ends up killing her attackers. Guilty, desperate, and scared, Cosette does the unthinkable.
Tell us about the first time you were
published?
I wrote my first
novel over ten years ago and was on the verge of having it published when,
sadly, my publisher passed away. I shelved my books for a few years to work on
our family business. Now I'm back to writing and have decided my fate is in my
own hands. And since I hate being told what to do I am self-publishing.
As writer, what has been your proudest
achievement so far?
Keeping someone
awake until 4:30 in the morning because they couldn’t put my book down. And
they had to message me right when they finished because they loved it so much.
That was a proud moment.
What books or writing projects are you
currently working on, if anything?
I wrote the
series to My Beautiful Suicide, five books in all, so I have a lot of editing
to do.
Do you have a favourite place to write?
I have the most
comfortable leather recliner ever. It’s worn in. I can’t have any noise or
breeze or anything that derails my train of thought so that limits my writing
to 2-5 in the morning or when the kids are in school and the hubby’s at work. I
need a cave.
Which do you prefer? eBooks or Paper
Books? Why?
I like e-books.
I can read in bed and there’s no sound of pages turning and no one knows what
I’m reading. Sneaky-sneaky.
Aside from your own books, of course,
what is one book that you feel everybody should read?
The Bible. The
wisdom in there is well, perfect, but the stories in there are fantastic! A
woman seduces a man and stakes him to the ground, thus saving an army. A man’s
wife was raped and to show the country what happened he cut her up into twelve
pieces and sent the parts to the country’s officials who all but wiped out the
culprits. I could go on and on but the stories are cool and would make some
fantastic fan fiction.
Finally … is there anything you would
like to say to your readers in Adelaide, Australia?
I am thrilled I
have readers in Adelaide! Thank you for spending time with me. You can friend
me on Facebook if you want, I’d love to hear from you. – I would too, Australians
have the coolest accents!
